Let's make cheese together

In addition to the tastings, you might want to roll up your sleeves with us and be in contact with the animals as well as learning how cheese is made in the Podere le Fornaci dairy. 

During the experience, you actively take part in the production of a caciotta and gain an understanding of the art of cheesemaking, learning how a cheese is made and the main stages of the process. The activity also includes a visit to the stable and a chance to meet our goats, offering a close look at the farm’s production cycle and the connection between milk, animals, and the final product.

After all that work comes the well-deserved cheese tasting. If you wish, you can add the option to end the experience with a lunch at the Podere, featuring fresh products from our garden and from a network of local farmers.

When does the workshop take place?​

The workshop is available during the milk season, which runs from mid-March to mid-November. After that, we stop milking the goats to allow them to recover their energy during pregnancy and in preparation for the births, which usually take place in February.

The starting time varies depending on the season and weather conditions, generally between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. in the morning. We kindly ask you to contact us a few days before the experience to agree on the most suitable starting time.

How much does it cost

  • 4-8: Workshop + tasting: 85€ per person

  • 4-8: Workshop + tasting and light lunch: 100€ per person

  • 9 people or more:  Workshop + tasting: 75€ per person

  • 9 people or more: Workshop + tasting and light lunch: 90€ per person

  • Children 0-3 years old: free
  • Children 4-10 years old: 50 € or 55€ with lunch

Milking with breakfast

If you want an extra special breakfast, immersed in nature and farm life, choose our Milking with Breakfast! A unique and authentic opportunity to explore our farm, meet our baby goats, and enjoy delicious products.

The start time varies depending on the season and weather conditions, normally between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. in the morning. Please remember to contact us a few days before the experience to confirm the exact time. Then you will have the opportunity to interact with our wonderful herd of goats, feed them, pet them, and establish a special bond with them.

After milking, we will move to the quiet porch in front of the Caciaia, where a simple breakfast prepared with love and care will await you. You will enjoy the freshest produce from our goats, our garden, and local farmer friends, all carefully selected to bring you freshest seasonal ingredients.

Duration of the experience: 2 hours
Milking with breakfast at Podere Le Fornaci caters for a minimum of 4 people – maximum 9 and costs:

  • 4-5 people: €30 per person

  • 6-9 people: €25 per person

  • Children 0-3 years: free

  • Children 4-10 years: 15€ per person

What does breakfast consist of?

  • Espresso mocha coffee with goat’s milk to taste (CAPRUCCINO)
     
  • Slice of cake or local bread with organic flours

  • Local or self-made jams and juices

  • Fresh goat cheese

You can try to book even the day before but, especially in spring and fall, we are full of requests and being a small business we take a few dates a week. The earlier you book, the better chance we can accommodate you!

We will be waiting for you in our farm among the Chianti hills. Since we’re in the country, you should expect to find some mud, buzzing insects and barnyard smells. So please bring some spare boots or shoes, insect repellent in summer and a smile on your face.

If you have dogs, keep them in the car or always with you on a leash. “Our Guardians” are sweet to humans, but they do their jobs well by becoming protective of goats in the presence of their peers.

The variety of cheeses we offer is subject to seasonal production and availability during the season. We will tell you more here.

You can cancel:

  • within 72 hours prior to the tasting, i.e. max 3 days before, which entitles you to a full refund
  • within 48 hours prior to the tasting, i.e. max 2 days before, which entitles you to 50% of the cost
  • within 24 hours, i.e. the day before, means the full cost will be charged.
